Physical Therapy
In the Cangrejal River watershed we have identified a group of children that we are presently working with for whom one-on-one time with a professional physical therapist is helping them make tremendous strides in their day-to-day lives. These professionals make regular evaluations and then recommend to the specialists working with these kids on a regular basis various exercises to practice. Currently there are 5 participating children in this aspect of our Special Education Program.
Language Therapy
Children in the Special Education Program who are experiencing challenges specific to language also receive special attention catered to their needs. Three children and one adult are currently working with volunteers who provide speech therapy.
With these students a diverse set of tools are used including reading aloud specially chosen books that present the opportunity to consistently repeat particularly challenging words and sounds, exercising the tongue and cheeks in certain ways, and using song and singing - a particularly powerful tool for some when it comes to practicing words and exercises. |
